CCR- music video
1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent
social groups or issues?
The music video includes a storyline about people that are LGBTQ. It challenges gender norms and shows that you don’t just have to like your opposite gender. It also shows that you can be whatever you want and there are no standards when it comes to the gender you want to be, or like. Therefore, in the video, the LGBTQ community as a whole is represented. The challenges they face as a community to be accepted are also represented. Over all, the LGBTQ community faced acceptance challenges and the video
challenged it by showing all are accepted. Even as teenagers, acceptance can be hard as adolescents go through challenges. Relationships can also be a lot of pressure but it doesn’t need to be. Even with that, that video shows not to care what people think, and like whoever you choose no matter what people say.
2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a
real media text?
The music video engages with a variety of audiences. The song “you belong with me” is a very popular Taylor swift song. Her audience is also very wide. Her fan base is people of all genders and she is seen as a role model for many as she draws in a lot of people. The video itself would draw in teenagers because of the “high school love” kind of plot. It would be distributed on YouTube as a music video for entertainment. The topic of LGBTQ and music would classify it as a real media text. It also relates situations to certain groups.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
From the last project, which was the commercial, my skills with filming were at beginner level. Then, I didn’t really know how to film all the angles and I was still adjusting. Filming the music video, my skills advanced to intermediate, especially with camera angles and modes on the phone. When filming the music video, I learned how to shoot more angles. For example, the canted angle was a newer one that had to be perfected in the video and I learned how to do it properly as time went on. I also learned more about how to stage a scene and where to place people and things. Throughout this project, my skills started advancing progressively as I was filming. I also learned some new transitions and editing techniques on iMovie.
4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this
project?
My group used an iPhone to shoot this music video. I had to use mine as well as Sofia's at times but they are pretty similar in camera capabilities. Apple technology, like the cinematic mode on the newer iPhone, was used to shoot it. Cinematic mode made the subject more focused and centered. A MacBook was used to edit the video. It was very helpful because it has easy features. On the MacBook my group used iMovie specifically to edit. This allowed for smooth transitions, to import music and for the whole thing to be put together into an actual music video.
